Writing to Win!

This year we achieved our highest ever placing in the First Story ‘6 Word Story Competition’

Maryam Ahmed from year 7 was placed second in the annual national writing competition!

Time will stop if we stay

Her 6-word story: ‘Time will stop if we stay’ was praised by the judges, including staff from Penguin Publishers, they said

‘I love how this entry is so simple yet could be read in so many different ways. The characters could be so in love that it feels like the world stops when they are together. Or they could be in some sort of time-warp situation that they need to escape from. Each reader will bring their own spin to it!’

Maryam is pictured receiving her certificate and books from Andy Hill, Programme and Partnerships Manager (Yorkshire)

Imprisoned in Twitter, send help now

Our school winner is Halima Bi from year 9, her 6-word story ‘Imprisoned in Twitter, send help now’ has netted her books and a certificate.

Both these students are part of the First Story project and are attending the weekly workshops run by author and theatre-maker Dan Ingram Brown. The anthology is well underway and gives the Odyssey myth a futuristic twist.
