Alternative Provision, Base & Bridge

The Base and Bridge is the internal Alternative Provision at Co-op Academy Grange. It is full-time provision, designed to offer a supportive and inclusive learning environment for Co-op Academy Grange students with SEMH (Social, Emotional, Mental Health) needs, who are at the risk of permanent exclusion and who require additional support, through the receipt of a bespoke provision tailored to meet their needs.

By combining academic classes taught by qualified teaching specialists in class sizes of 8 students with an additional support staff and a bespoke timetable which includes targeted interventions around SEMH, we can support students to reintegrate back into mainstream school while we also foster personal development by preparing students for future success and destinations.

The purpose of the Base and Bridge provision is to help a student to reintegrate back into a mainstream school setting. Students who are referred to our internal Alternative provision will access their education in the Alternative provision for a duration of 24-30 weeks:

  • Students who are referred to Base and Bridge will start in the Base provision for 12 weeks (Phase 1).
  • Should students pass Phase 1, they will then transition into mainstream internal provision which is called Bridge as part of the Phase 2 of the reintegration model. Students will access the Bridge provision for a further 12 weeks.
  • After 24 weeks, students will access mainstream lessons on a bespoke timetable and will also have access to the Bridge provision on a revolving door until students are fully ready to integrate back into mainstream.

The Base and Bridge students access a bespoke timetable which starts at 9.00am. Students will have the opportunity to have breakfast upon arrival, which is provided free of charge. Students will then prepare for the day and are welcomed to the classes by the Base and Bridge staff.

Students in Base and Bridge are taught the following subjects on a bespoke timetable:

  1. Maths

  2. English

  3. Science

  4. RE

  5. PSHCE
